State Secretary for Security Policy and Chief of the Armed Forces to take part in the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore
Bern, 27.05.2025 — From 30 May to 1 June, representatives from the Asia-Pacific region, North America, Europe and the Middle East will exchange views on current security policy challenges at the International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) in Singapore. Switzerland will be represented by Markus Mäder, State Secretary for Security Policy, and Lieutenant General Thomas Süssli, Chief of the Armed Forces.
The SLD serves as a forum in which decision-makers from a wide range of countries can discuss security policy challenges in the region and beyond and identify possible solutions. As the leading security policy conference in the Asia-Pacific region, the SLD offers a wide variety of panel discussions and events. This year it will address the challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies and innovation for defence, as well as current developments and regional tensions. Topics will range from cross-regional security cooperation and proliferation risks to crisis management.
Swiss delegation to hold bilateral talks
In addition to the panel discussions, numerous bilateral meetings will take place during the SLD. Both Mr Mäder and Lieutenant General Süssli will use the occasion to meet colleagues from Asia and Europe. The talks between State Secretary Mäder and his counterparts will focus on the current security situation in the South China Sea and security in Europe. Lieutenant General Süssli will discuss military development and training partnerships.
