COMCO Secretariat Launches Preliminary Investigation into Microsoft
Bern, 15.01.2026 — The Secretariat of the Swiss Competition Commission is investigating Microsoft’s licensing fees in Switzerland. The recent fee increases may constitute indications of an unlawful restriction of competition.
The competition authorities have received complaints concerning significant increases in the prices of Microsoft’s product licenses in Switzerland. These increases primarily concern Microsoft 365 used by private businesses as well as numerous government agencies, public companies and other government-related bodies.
The purpose of the preliminary investigation is to assess whether the observed fee increases may constitute indications of an unlawful restriction of competition within the meaning of the Cartel Act. Should such indications be confirmed, this could warrant the opening of a formal investigation. Consideration may be given to involving the expertise of the Price Supervision Authority.
